Guideline4.3

Should You Appeal a Guideline 4.3 Rejection?

§ 01What this rejection usually means

Appeal is a second, slower review of whether the guideline was applied correctly. It is not a louder version of “please approve.” Most 4.3s are not appeal-first cases.

§ 02What Apple’s wording tells you

App Review
We noticed your app shares a similar binary, metadata, and/or concept with apps submitted to the App Store.

If you have not yet said what is unique and what you audited, you are not ready to appeal. That text belongs in Resolution Center first.

§ 03Common causes

  • People appeal because they are angry, not because the facts are ready.
  • People attach a 2,000-word essay and no checklist.
  • People appeal a template app and lose weeks.

§ 04How to diagnose your case

  1. Have you already sent a factual reply? If no, stop here.
  2. Is the audit clean? If no, fix the binary or metadata.
  3. Did they repeat the same sentence with no new detail? Appeal becomes reasonable.

§ 05What to inspect in your project

  • A one-page fact sheet: source, account, identifiers, unique job
  • Dates of the previous reply
  • What you will not claim

§ 06What not to do

  • Do not appeal on day one.
  • Do not attach source code dumps.
  • Do not insult the reviewer.
  • Do not file a new appeal for every resubmit.

§ 07How to fix it

  1. Reuse the reply’s facts. Shorter is better.
  2. State the guideline, why it does not apply, and the evidence.
  3. Ask them to name the overlapping app if they still see one.

§ 08How to verify the fix

  • Someone outside the team can read the appeal in three minutes and repeat the argument.

§ 09What evidence to prepare

  • The earlier Resolution Center reply
  • Audit list
  • Ownership and design timeline
  • Screenshots of the unique flow

§ 10Suggested reply to App Review

Resolution Center · Reply
Hello App Review Board,

We are appealing Guideline 4.3 on [app name], version [n].

We already replied in Resolution Center on [date] with an identifier audit and a uniqueness note. The follow-up rejection used the same boilerplate.

Facts:
- Original source, not a commercial template
- Single app on this account
- No leftover vendor bundle IDs, schemes, or config files
- Distinct job: [sentence]

We believe 4.3 does not apply. If the board is matching a specific other binary, please identify it.

Thank you.

§ 11Should you appeal?

Recommended only in the false-positive / one-app / ignored-reply shape. Not recommended for template or white-label submissions.

§ 12Questions people ask next

How long does a 4.3 appeal take?
Often longer than a normal review. That is why it is a poor first move if a reply or a rewrite would have been enough.
